How interested are you in growing your real estate business and taking it to the next level? And, if this is something you know you want to do, how willing are you to do whatever is necessary to make this happen?

Having spent 20 years in commercial/industrial real estate brokerage and now, as a consultant working with individual agents to increase their sales, one factor clearly stands out that differentiates the top producers in real estate brokerage from everyone else producing less than ideal results:

The top producers are driven by a strong internal desire to be the best they can possibly be. They recognize that playing at the top of the industry is where they MUST be and they absolutely, positively will not settle for anything less than this.

Having the mindset of total determination to be the best in the company, the best in the territory, and the best in the industry carries with it amazing power which propels oneself to the top in earnings, success, and admiration by one's peers within the industry. The good news is if you have decided that the time is now, and you are truly committed and determined to play at this level in your own real estate career, you too can begin to produce these results almost immediately.

Have you ever told yourself that you want to increase your sales, that this is the year you will be the top earner in your company, and then at the end of the year you find that not much has changed? The reason for this is that typically we learn how to sell real estate a particular way in our first 3-5 years in the business, then we spend the rest of our real estate career duplicating the way we've learned how to sell. Recognizing this it is no surprise to find ourselves producing similar results year after year in our real estate careers. However, top producers, through their own internal commitment to becoming the best they can be, are constantly trying new, innovative approaches to improve their sales.

When I first began consulting with agents to increase their business, I thought that it would be the mediocre agents who would hire me to coach them. However, I've found that it is the top earners, those people constantly committed to be the best in the business, that want to work with me. The mediocre agents seem to be more comfortable doing what they are doing and producing the results that they have been, and the thought of doing anything to change their day-to-day routine is not very interesting to them. Think about this…many of the people who produce mediocre to poor results in real estate sales work the same amount of hours as those who are earning the top money. If you are going to work the same hours as the top earners, wouldn't you rather learn to do the things that the top earners are doing that has them constantly earn the money they do? Can you imagine how much more exciting, passionate, and successful your life will be when you learn to incorporate these behaviors into your day-to-day real estate activities working the same hours that you already are? If you believe this is possible for you and you are committed to making it happen, you too can transform your results to a whole new level in a short period of time. How committed are you to making this happen in your real estate career right now?

As I began to write this article I received a phone call from someone who has been a client of mine for a little over a year. He called to tell me that his income was $200,000.00 higher last year than his previous best year in 15-plus years as a commercial/industrial real estate agent. Now this is someone who decided that the time is now to transform his career to where he's always wanted it to be, and he became totally willing to do whatever it takes to make this happen. With this attitude one can literally transform their real estate career overnight, as this man already has.

When you are truly ready to take your real estate career to a whole new level, find someone you trust to assist you in learning the new, successful habits to incorporate into your day-to-day routine that will literally transform your results and your income. As you may have already recognized, your current day-to-day habits will continue to produce the same results you've always been producing. Taking your results to the next level in your career requires both new learning and new behavior. Find someone who is producing the results you want to in real estate and have this person mentor you, or find someone you trust with the expertise to coach you to this new level. If you try to do it on your own, as you may have already discovered, the chances are extremely high you will fall back into your same old habits again--producing the same old results.

The truth is you can have it any way you want it in your real estate career once you've decided with conviction that the time is now to make it happen.
